I am operating a Waterjet Suprema manufactured in 2003. We purchased this machine used in 2015. It has low hours and runs well. The Mitsubishi Software that was included in the Machine Controller is the CNC 700 Series. We use MetaCAM 6 as our Nesting Software. Recently, we tried cutting letters and numbers in a 9 GA. Plate rather than stamp them. We received great results but were questioning why so many up and down motions were needed to cut the letters/numbers. Is there a way to cut the letters in a straight linear fashion instead of having the head go up and down for every letter? Is this behavior a function of the Machine's programming (i.e. Mitsubishi) or a function of the Nesting Program? Any helpful suggestions that you could make would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the admission to the Group.
I run a Mitsubishi Water-Jet with a 700 series controller, also with MetaCam. Whenever you have separate letters/numbers a new pierce point must be used to gain entry into the geometry of the feature. You have two options that may remedy this issue. The first; Use an outside program to create a script font or join the lettering together so that it doesn't have all the pierce points, by creating continuous lines and arcs connecting all the lettering. The second; This would be to lower the height that the Z axis raises between points. You will still have the Z axis motion, but it will be a minimal up/down transition. This can be changed in the "Variable" menu, you have to scroll down to find the Z up variable. I would recommend going no lower that .75 on this to avoid collisions. MetaCam also has this variable in a dialog box when you create the program. It is found in the secondary tab list. Hope this helps!!
Thanks for the advice Walt. We adjusted the Z-Up Variable Height from 7" to 1". This cut our time per part more than half. We did this adjustment in the Mitsubishi Software. Again thanks again for your helpful instruction. Be well.
