Hello all,

Our waterjet beds have the wave type slats. We cut these slats from zinc plated sheets. The cuts lose their zinc layer, so they start to rust almost immediatly.

We dont want any rust on our aluminium and stainless steel sheets, so we place hardboard sheets on top of the slats. The cut up hardboard pieves wont dissolve easy, leading to clogging abrasive removal pipes etc. It also costs money and time, so I was thinking about other solutions.

Using stainless steel slats might be a little bit expensive, but i'm sure many of you have other solutions.

What are your solutions to prevent rust from the slats contaminating the sheets?

we use 12 gauge stainless in our machines here, it is a little more expensive, and the only place we see rust is where the runners meet the lat and thats only toward the end of the lat's life 

so if money isnt really a factor thats what i would use

Have you tried apllyig a cold galvanizing spray on the esdges. it comes in a regular spray can and you might have to reapply but it might be cheaper
