Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and waterjets. The company I work for is looking into purchasing a waterjet. We're looking at the Flow Mach 3 model 3020b and the Omax 60120. I will be the main operator so I would like to find out if anyone out there has one of these models. Any info, likes, dislikes, problems, I guess the types of things the salesmen don't tell you would be very helpful. I'm also interested learning about ease of use of the software. We will be using both designs we will upload and also custom drawings that I will most likely have to create using the software. I thank everyone in advance for any info you have to share and also look forward to being an active member of the forum.
Not sure if you're still looking for info or not, but here's my opinion.
The OMAX software (Layout and Make) are the best on the market for ease of use and reliability. Once you get used to using them they are very quick and intuitive. I'm not familiar with that OMAX model, but the software pairs perfectly with our machine and doesn't have any extraneous options that dont work. It also comes with a full suite of software for everything from 3D toolpath creation for complex surfaces, and etching software to easily create embossed surfaces. I've been managing/programming/running an OMAX 55100 for over 2 years now and I am still amazed at what the software can do when I run into a problem with a part.
The other GREAT thing about OMAX is that their customer service is some of the best you can get. You'll speak to someone who speaks the same English as you, and if they don't have an answer for you on the phone, they can usually get you one within the same day.
The downside? I'm not sure since I don;t have a lot of experience with Flow or other systems, but I feel like replacement parts are extremely pricey for the OMAX. That's the price you pay for the best waterjet on the market though, I guess.
We still haven't decided yet, but thanks for the input. We had a Omax rep by the shop the other day showing Sigma Nest software. It's pretty impressive.
