Losing Pressure
Permalink

I have a question witch I hope I'm able to get some quick feed back on. We are having a large problem with our pump RPM's getting lower every time the machine is about to pierce. It was doing it on the dump but after we cleaned and rebuilt our dump valves it worked great for about a week. But again tonight it started to lose RPM's which is lowing our pressure. Does anyone know what could cause this or what the fix could be?

Thanks

Rodney

The motor slowing down or just losing pressure?

Is this an Omax or Flow direct-drive pump? If this is an Omax, I likely know your problem.

We have an Omax 55100 with a 3050 pump and are experiencing the same problems as did Rodney54. I'm wondering what caused the problem and how it was fixed. Hoping that someone can help.

On an Omax machine, where you have both a nozzle on/off valve and a dump on/off valve (located in pump cabinet), make sure that whatever orifice you have in your dump valve is a larger diameter than your nozzle one.  Otherwise, what happens is that when you first start cutting you might be at 50k, but when you traverse and send water down the dump valve, the pressure may spike up a bit to something like 54k due to the smaller orifice (greater restriction).  The variable frequency drive then automatically lowers rpms to bring the pump safely down to 50k, but when you end the traverse and start cutting again the pump will only be cutting at something like 46k because of the lower rpm's.

Good Luck,
Tim
