Slow steel cutting speeds

Hello everyone,

We have a Calypso unit with a 60,000 psi pump, we cut alot of A36 mild steel but we seem to be cutting very slow with quality set at 2 and 1.25 lb/min we are cutting 1/2" at 5 ipm and 3/8" 9ipm. what is everyone else cutting at? any ideas on speeding it up ? it's killing our production.

Thank you in advance,

                             steve

Have you tried a harder abrasive garnet? We switched and gained about a 50% increase in speed.

That sounds about right with what we got on our 60k Calypso. If you're piercing a lot you can try reducing the raise height so it doesn't spend so much time travelling along z.
