First time on this site, and rather new to waterjet
form 3 days ago we broke down 4 mixing tube, the problem began when the machine began to pierce the nozzle plugged and suddenly the nozzle broke down. some times the nozzle came off from mixing chamber and some time didn't come off but brake. we also changed the orifice with new one and screen the garnet with screen #80 but nothing changed. I must say that if nozzle dose not plug at piercing the cutting operation done very nice and smooth.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Hello,
I work with water-jets everyday, we tend to have pierce issues (nozzle clogs) for a couple different reasons which can usually be avoided.
1 - Ensure your nozzle has the correct diameter opening to allow the desired abrasive through, sometimes turning down the amount of abrasive going to the nozzle will help to alleviate this issue on the initial pierce, then usually the abrasive can be turned up a bit once cutting has started. But the abrasive granule size cannot exceed the diameter of the nozzle tip or it will clog and discharge or break the nozzle everytime.
2 - Ensure that the material you are cutting is not making contact with the tip of the nozzle. Even though the machine uses high pressure, when material is in direct contact with the tip it will prevent the abrasive from escaping for that initial split second at the start of the pierce which will cause abrasive to be impacted and clog the nozzle behind the tip. this is very common in thinner materials that have slight distortion to their flatness. This issue could also be happening if the tip is not set correctly to keep a focus distance from the top of the material. usually .08"

Tell us which machine that you have, as Walt mention above adjusting the abrasive amount is not possible on all machines, some use metering disc that provide a fixed amount of abrasive. This may also be debris in the abrasive or if air pressure is used to move the abrasive from a main hopper to a smaller hopper on the gantry, you might have moisture in your system, which can cause clogs.
