I've been given the task of trying to etch or scribe. I'm interested in trying to find out how others set-up their machines to do this.. Water only or do I add just a little bit of garnet, scribe speed, low pressure psi setting, font style, etc.. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
The material I will be trying to etch is .125" thick 4130 chrome moly. The desired depth of the etch would be around 0.010".

Water only should work fine for this, as well as full pressure. First step is to figure out the desired feedrate for the depth of etch. Second step (and this is key to making it look good) is setting the water on/off dwells to be timed very precisely to not have deeper cuts on the beginning and end of each scribe.
