I am normally cutting 1/4" and up with a .014/.040 set up on a 60K IFB. I ran some shims the other day that had more burr than the customer liked. He's asking for more shims and would like to reduce the burr. The material is 304 SS shim stock with a thickness of .003 to .020 Any suggestions?
Thanks, Bill S

Good luck with that. LOL I usually cut thicker materials, but did a job the other day with really thin 304 SS. Wicked burr. Cut my fingers on it. Hopefully someone else here knows of a way to reduce it.

What abbrasive are you running? Think of it like sandpaper...the courser it is the rougher the finish. If you are running 50 or 80 mesh you will have considerably more burr than if you run 120 or 150 mesh.

Use Fine abrasive, keep the shimstock really tightly stacked together, use the second thickest piece as your top, the thickest as the bottom, put some popcorn in the microwave, hope for the best.
